• The allotment I am involved with is a collective affair. It is worked, here in Barnet, by a group of local activists and residents. We were lucky to apply as a group to take over a plot which was in a sad state. We are starting small. So at this stage we are working together only once a week. We are motivated to learn together and mobilise more local people to get involved. 

• We have a lot to do but on the other hand, in a short space of time, we have made great strides. The untidy site has been cleared.  2 small sheds have been repaired and tidied. We have revived an old vine and a plumb tree. A neighbouring alloment holder helped us plant a creeping courgette bush  And so abundantly did it grow that we are now reaping our first crop. A patch of strawberry plants has just been put into theground and we look forward to a harvest next summer. 

• Cleaning, tidying and clearing have yielded a fascinting discovery. A rudimentary and overgrown pond was still holding water. After dredging it of leaves and debris, what did we find? Some frogs had still managed to make it their homes. And they were clearly part of a functioning ecosystem which was providing them with sufficient food to survive there.

• We involve all ages  on our allotment. We have a mother who brings her son, and we have a grandmother who brings her granddaughter. The children are loving being outdoors and interacting with the plants and creatures they find - they love the wriggly worms, the slimy snails and the other creepy crawlies. And off course nothing beats messy play and getting wet. So far we have been working on our plot in the late saummer and autumn. The prospect of next spring and Summer, when the plot will have matured considerably, holds much promise. 

  
  

  
  

  
  

•  At present we have a rough design for the whole plot. And plans aplenty. Tidying and clearing are ongoing activities. We are also committed to recycling. A compost heap must still be constructed, a necessary component of recycling of  course.  In an exciting move we are making some raised beds with recycled wooden pallets. We have eagerly scavenged the neighbourhood for discarded pallets which we will also be used to make the compost bin and some simple furniture to sit and relax on. Our allotment is a labour of love and a work in progress. We look forward to many exciting times as it takes shape.

  الحِصّة (قِطْعة أَرْضٍ مُسْتَأْجَرةٍ للبَسْتَنةِ) التي أشارك بها هي ملكية جماعية، هنا في بارنت ، يعمل بها مجموعة من النشطاء المحليين والسكان. كنا محظوظين لأننا تقدمنا ​​كمجموعة لتولي قطعة الأرض هذه والتي كانت في حالة مزرية. اننا نبدأ كمجموعة صغيرة  لذا في هذه المرحلة ، نعمل معًا مرة واحدة فقط في الأسبوع. نحن متحمسون للتعلم معًا وحشد المزيد من السكان المحليين للمشاركة.

• لدينا الكثير مما ينبغي عمله، لكننا أحرزنا تقدما كبيرا في غضون فترة زمنية قصيرة. فقد تم مسح الموقع المكركب ، وتم إصلاح سقيفتين صغيرتين وترتيبها. كما وأعدنا إحياء كرمة قديمة (دالية) وشجرة برقوق. ساعدتنا العريشة الزراعية المجاورة على زراعة شجيرة الكوسا المتسلقة ، وقد نمت بشكل كبير لدرجة أننا الآن نجني محصولنا الأول. كما قمنا للتو بزراعة  مجموعة أشتال من الفراولة ونحن نتطلع إلى حصادها في الصيف المقبل.

• أسفر التنظيف والترتيب عن اكتشاف رائع. وجدنا بركة بدائية مغطاة بالنباتات البرية لا تزال تحتفظ ببعض المياه. ماذا وجدنا بعد تجريفها من الأوراق وقطع  القمامة المتناثرة ؟ تمكنت بعض الضفادع  من جعل البركة منزل لها. ومن الواضح أنها كانت جزءا من نظام إيكولوجي فعال يوفر لهم ما يكفي من الغذاء للبقاء هناك.

• نحن نشرك جميع الأعمار في حصتنا. لدينا أم تحضر ابنها ، ولدينا جدة تحضر حفيدتها. يحب الأطفال التواجد في الهواء الطلق والتفاعل مع النباتات والمخلوقات التي يجدونها - فهم يحبون الديدان المتلألئة والقواقع اللزجة وغيرها من الزواحف المخيفة. بالطبع لا شيء يتفوق على اللعب الفوضوي والبلل. حتى الآن كنا نعمل على قطعة الأرض الخاصة بنا منذ أواخر الصيف والخريف. سيكون شكل قطعة الأرض عندما تنضج في الربيع والصيف المقبلين مبشر بالكثير.

• في الوقت الحاضر لدينا تصميم تقريبي لكامل قطعة الأرض. وخطط كثيرة. الترتيب والتقليم من الأنشطة المستمرة. نحن ملتزمون أيضًا بإعادة التدوير. لا زال يتعين علينا بناء كومة السماد ، وهي عنصر ضروري لإعادة التدوير بالطبع. في خطوة مثيرة ، نقوم بصنع بعض الأسرة (أحواض زراعية مرتفعة عن الأرض) المرتفعة بمنصات خشبية معاد تدويرها . لقد بحثنا بشغف في الحي بحثًا عن المشاتيح المهملة والتي سنستخدمها أيضًا في صنع صندوق السماد وبعض الأثاث البسيط للجلوس والاسترخاء. حصتنا هي عمل محبة وعمل في تطور. نحن نتطلع إلى العديد من الأوقات المثيرة بينما تتبلور.
